Teachers

Teachers spend six or more hours a day, five days a week with kids. That’s a lot of time spent helping kids learn…which means they are going to have a fair amount of influence with their students.

While the Manitoba Phys. Ed. and Health curriculum does talk about alcohol and other substances, teachers may also encounter alcohol-related problems in their day-to-day classroom interactions. When that happens, the teacher and the school will take action, whether that action is to encourage a student to seek help, to enforce the school rules or a combination of both. Most importantly, a good teacher will find a way to involve the parents so that any alcohol-related problems are addressed at home as well as at school.
